RE: Looking for Beach Spots in Southeastern US

If you don't mind a place that isn't commercalized and only has one grocery store then I'd suggest Edisto Beach state park. It's beautiful and quiet....we leave tomorrow for a week long stay right on the beach. It's between Charleston and Beaufort and makes a nice day trip to either. Hope you find what you're looking for.

RE: Inflateable Kayak Sea Eagle 370 Pro Package

I ordered mine from here, quick delivery and good price...i got the Pro package for 279.00 a couple months ago. Spend the extra dough to get those kayak seats, they are nice. Also, the bag is a little akward to carry so if you can find a cheap rolling duffel I'd recommend it. I've had mine out a couple of times and going this weekend and love it.

RE: Devils Fork St Park, SC

Hi, I have to say that we loved Devil's Fork when we went there in November. They are right about it not being "water front" but I had no problems following the little trail to it. We had Site 1 which probably wouldn't work for anything much bigger than ours but was wonderful for us. Several sites along the back had a good deal of space and we saw some really big 5th wheels come in. Here's the link to some of our picks from there and places we visited near it. http://s62.photobucket.com/albums/h117/waves75/Devils%20Fork/

RE: 1 More Week!!!! Then its off to Charleston!!!!!

Ft Sumter is ok but not as good as we expected. If we had to choose between it and just a harbor tour we'd take the harbor tour. Definately check out the Yorktown, this history is amazing. Take a walk on the battery and past Rainbow Row and check out the market. Middleton Place plantation is beautiful and the waterparks I hear are a blast. If you get a chance for a nice dinner out, California Dreaming is like an old fort on the water and you can see dolphins surfacing while you eat. Be prepared for very hot and muggy weather but you'll still have a great time.....don't forget to hit the beaches!!!

RE: Colleton State Park, SC

You say you're going to Edisto Island? Just want to make sure you know that Colleton State Park isn't actually near there. It's in the same county but about an hour away and in the middle of nowhere. It is on the Edisto River as well. If you're actually wanting to stay on the island or at Edisto Beach then you should check out either Edisto Beach State Park ( Live oak section, beach front will be booked already), Lake Aire Campgound which is about 30 minutes from Edisto and close to Charleston or Oak Plantation which is near Lake Aire. I'm counting down the days til our trip to Edisto so hope you find what you're looking for. Also, they are right about the water at Edisto Beach but at Colleton State Park it's not as bad. Sorry bout that, just saw where you edited it from the other day :)

RE: Trying to book Disney World Fort Wilderness 2009

I was trying to reserve for January but they will only let you reserve online up until Dec 31. Once I get a better idea of when I can go I'm calling since there is nothing available before then. Good luck.

RE: Edisto Beach State Park

You're lucky to have gotten that spot. We headed down there last Friday just for a day trip and both campgrounds were full. The only way to get a beach campground spot is to reserve it well in advance, usually right at the 11 month mark. We're going to be down there the last week of July and I made the reservations the first day we were allowed to and by the end of that day almost all the beachfront spots were reserved already. We stayed at live oak last year and it was really nice and the shower house was wonderful compared to others. As far as the security goes, don't worry too much about it. I've been going there for 15 years and crime is basically non existent. We left our car door open last summer with a wallet and laptop when we went to the showers, came back and were siting around the campfire and someone came up and told us. Everything was still there and that wouldn't have happened where I live :)

RE: Camping 'N Kayaking

I just got a SeaEagle 330 ( i think that's right) for around $279 for boat, paddles, pump and seats. Took it out a few weeks ago and loved it. It only taked about 6-7 minutes to inflate by foot and is rated for at least Class 3 rapids. It seats two but I prefer just going myself and will probably get another for my husband if he's interested.

Darlington raceway

Hi everyone, we're heading to Darlington next weekend for the race and I was wondering if anyone knew of a dumpstation nearby. We'll be staying a couple of blocks from the track but not actually on the property. Thanks and keep your fingers crossed for a dry Saturday this year :)

RE: Roof vent opening while towing

We had the same problem last november on one of our trips. We replaced one on the way up and had to stop back by the dealership coming home to fix the other. In our situation we found out that there was a bad batch of vents produced that didn't have the UV protection and were therefore dry rotting in the sun and pieces of plastic broke and would not latch. When we took them off they literally crumbled when you touched them. Don't know if that might causing you're problem or not but check them to make sure.

RE: Travel trailers with two toilets

I know they exist because I just saw one this weekend at an RV show. There was a full bath in the master and on the other side of the camper there were bunks on each side wall with a wall and door between them and a toilet and sink. I thought it would be great for if you had a boy and a girl because it was like two little bedrooms that shared a bath but for the life of me I can't remember who made it. Maybe Forest River??? Found one, it's big but here's the link. http://www.forestriverinc.com/nd/floorplanview.asp?name=14&page=card&series=LE5thWheels

RE: EDISTO BEACH ,SC Comments and advice.

Hi there, I've been going to Edisto Beach since I was 17...dang, guess that makes it 14 years now. We just started camping last year since the family house just got too small for the extended family. I guess technically we've been camping several more years, it's just been in a tent on the front porch of the family house. That goes to show just how much we love being down there. It will be peaceful and quiet with beautiful sunrises that usually involve dolpins. Don't expect anything like Myrtle Beach though, no miniature gold, Wings or tattoo parlors. Piggly wiggly is where you shop for your food and there are a couple of little gift shops at the Pavillion and the Edistonian. Check out the Sea Cow Eatery for both breakfast and lunch and be sure to get a piece of pie there, whatever you get it's great. If you're looking for something a little more pricey, the Old Post Office (you'll pass it on the way to the island) have some southern coastal cuisine that is worth every penny. The best mode of transportation down there is by bike so if you got em, bring em. For the first time ever I'm staying beach front when we go down there in July and can't wait. Site 16 is ready and reserved for us and we're counting down the day. You may not understand it now but once you cross the Dawhoo bridge on the way there, life just gets a little bit better.

What did you get for Christmas?

Just wondering what sort of cool camping stuff everyone got for Christmas. My husband worried he got me too much camping stuff and I had to tell him that wasn't possible. I was thrilled to get a propane oven since our camper doesn't have one, also got one of those new Coleman propane torches, a lantern post and a great set of cast iron cookware. We're going to take off MLK holiday weekend for a couple of nights and I can't wait. So what did Santa bring Ya'll?

RE: Myrtle Beach Restaurant Recommendations??

If you're looking to go a little fancy and don't mind about a 30 minute drive, there is a place in Little River called The Parson's Table that is unbelieveable. My husband and I went there for an anniversary and the staff was so friendly, the owner walked around singing and the food was amazing. Closer to MB, we love Tripps at Broadway and any of the Calabash places. Down a little further toward Garden City is Bovine's which is great too.

Darlington

Last year as a surprise I got my husband ticket's to the Darlington race since he was interested in NASCAR, I just always teased him about turning left whenever he was watching on TV. I guess the surprise was on me because as soon as I got there I fell in love with it. From the tailgating, crowding in with thousands of your new best friends in the rain to the incredible feeling I got everytime the came by. When the race got rained out Saturday night and we were stuck in traffic for several hours is when we actually started thing about buying a camper, Memorial Day weekend we bought one. I've already got my seats reserved for 2008 and I'm looking for advice on where to stay. We're young but not really party people (we deal with enough of that with our jobs, don't feel like breaking up drunk fights off duty) so we don't want to be anywhere too crazy...if that's even a possibility. We are looking for water and electric hookups since it was quite warm last year and something within walking distance to the track. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks.
